Maryland Election Day Guide: Polls Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Same-Day Registration at Your Assigned Polling Place, and an Early Vote That Nearly Doubled 2022 (Washington Sentinel News)

Maryland voters who have not voted early or by mail head to the polls on Tuesday, and the early numbers say this is not a sleepy midterm in the state: a little more than 604,000 voters cast ballots during the early voting period in 2026, nearly double the nearly 382,000 who did so in 2022. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

The mechanics matter. On Election Day, Maryland voters must vote in person at the polling place assigned to their residential address - there are 236 polling places in Prince George's County alone, including the University of Maryland's Stamp Student Union and College Park City Hall. Registration is still available on Election Day at that assigned polling place, with proof of residence such as an MVA-issued license, permit or ID card, a change-of-address card, a bank statement or another government document showing name and new address. Anyone in line at their assigned location before 8 p.m. will still be allowed to vote.

At the top of the Maryland ballot, Democratic incumbent Wes Moore faces Republican challenger Dan Cox in a rematch of the 2022 governor's race. In Prince George's County, the county executive and the full County Council are up for election, and voters will also decide the fate of the council's two at-large seats in a countywide referendum.

Statewide, three proposed constitutional amendments are on the ballot. Question 1 asks whether the governor should budget money to pay for labor agreements between the state and its employees; Question 2 asks how a vacancy on the Commission on Judicial Disabilities should be filled; and Question 3 asks whether the state constitution should be amended to remove the requirement that congressional districts consist of adjoining territory and be compact and of substantially equal population, clearing the path for future redistricting proposals. The Maryland Board of Elections urges voters to review their sample ballot before arriving.
