Getting to the Polls on Election Day: Free MTA Rides in Maryland, Regular MARC Schedules, and Free Lime Rides in DC (Washington Sentinel News)

Maryland voters get a free ride to the polls on Tuesday. The Maryland Transit Administration has announced that fares will be waived throughout Election Day, November 3, on its Local Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail and Mobility services - an initiative the agency says is designed to remove transportation barriers that could keep residents from voting. Maryland's polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, and the free fares apply across the services for the whole day, not only for trips to a polling place.

The trains run as usual underneath the free fares. On the MTA's own Election Day service page, Local Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail, MARC Train and Commuter Bus all operate regular weekday schedules on Tuesday, and Mobility services run a regular schedule with subscription trips honored. Riders who need to cancel a Tuesday subscription trip can call the Mobility Call Center, and the Transit Information Contact Center answers from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at 410-539-5000.

District voters have a two-wheel version of the same offer. Lime's Lime to the Polls program is offering two free 30-minute rides on Lime vehicles in Washington from October 24 through Election Day, November 3, using the promo code VOTE26 in the Lime app, for trips to and from a polling place, early voting site or ballot drop box. The company says the program is strictly non-partisan and open to all eligible individuals regardless of voter registration status or voting intent - one more way, alongside the regular Metro and bus network, for capital-region voters to close the last mile between home and the ballot box.
