Alexandria Votes Today at Four Moved Polling Places — After More Than 34,000 Voted Early
Blessed Sacrament, City Hall, George Mason School and View Alexandria precincts all vote somewhere new today, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The city counts 26,499 early in-person voters and 7,911 returned mail ballots before a single Election Day ballot is cast.

Alexandria's Election Day trap is a familiar building with nobody voting in it. Four of the city's precincts vote at new polling places today: voters formerly assigned to the Blessed Sacrament Precinct vote at North Quaker, 1801 N. Quaker Lane; the former City Hall Precinct votes at Lyles-Crouch School, 530 S. St. Asaph Street, following the signs for Old Town South; the former George Mason School Precinct votes at Trinity Church, 2911 Cameron Mills Road; and the former View Alexandria Precinct votes at Hope Way, 2800 Hope Way. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Election Day an Alexandria voter must vote at their designated polling place.
The city arrives at today with much of its vote already in. According to the Alexandria Office of Voter Registration and Elections, 26,499 people voted early in person and 7,911 mail-in ballots had been returned — more than 34,000 ballots before Election Day. A mail ballot can still be returned by 7 p.m. today at drop boxes at all polling places, or at the secure drop box in front of the elections office at 132 N. Royal Street, or mailed postmarked today and received by noon on Friday, November 6. A voter without an accepted ID can sign an ID confirmation statement and cast a provisional ballot, and same-day registration remains available at the correct polling place, also by provisional ballot.
The ballot itself is federal and constitutional — no city offices this year. Alexandrians vote for U.S. Senate, where Democrat Mark Warner faces Republican Bert Mizusawa, and for the 8th Congressional District, where Democrat Don Beyer faces Republican Tony Sabio, Libertarian Shelly Arnoldi and independent Tim Sharman, alongside three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution concerning reproductive rights, same-sex marriage and voting rights for former felons.
The rest of the city's day bends around the vote. Alexandria City Public Schools have no classes; the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Court Service Unit are closed, the Circuit Court and Clerk's Office handle emergency election matters only, Virginia DMV offices are closed, and the Health Department's clinics do not open — while most other city offices and libraries run normally. Voters unsure of their place can confirm it at vote.elections.virginia.gov or call the elections office at 703-746-4050.
