Coco Under the Trees: Lincoln Park Closes Halloween Weekend With a Free Sunday-Night Screening (Washington Sentinel News)

Halloween weekend on Capitol Hill ends outdoors and quietly. Friends of Lincoln Park hosts a showing of Coco at Lincoln Park at 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, according to Capitol Hill Corner's weekend reminders. The screening is free, runs about two hours, and the hosts will have popcorn, snacks and drinks available.

The film choice is the point of the evening. Coco is the animated Disney film about the Day of the Dead: it follows Miguel, a young musician who journeys into the colorful Land of the Dead to uncover his family's story and the power of remembering the people we love, as KidFriendly DC's weekend round-up describes it. Dia de los Muertos runs November 1 and 2, so Sunday's screening lands on the observance itself, a day after Halloween night - the round-up frames the movie night as the way to wind down Halloween weekend and Dia de los Muertos together.

Sunday also arrives with an extra hour in it: daylight saving time ended at 2 a.m., when clocks went back an hour - the recovery hour after a Saturday Halloween, as one regional family guide put it. For Capitol Hill families, the practical shape of the evening is simple: a blanket or chairs on the grass at Lincoln Park, something warm to wear as the first standard-time evening settles in, and a free film that trades Saturday's scares for a story about family and remembrance.
