Mail Ballot Deadlines Differ Across DC, Maryland and Virginia as Election Day November 3 Nears
Capital-region voters holding mail ballots face three different sets of return rules: DC ballots can be dropped off by 8 p.m. on Election Day and mailed ballots received by November 13, Maryland ballots are due by 8 p.m. on Election Day or postmarked by then, and Virginia ballots returned in person are due by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters in all three capital-region jurisdictions face differing deadlines to return absentee and mail-in ballots ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, FOX 5 DC reported. With early in-person voting wrapping up this weekend in the District and Virginia and already finished in Maryland, the mail-ballot rules are now the part of the calendar voters most need to get right.
In the District of Columbia, completed ballots can be delivered to an early voting center by 7 p.m. Sunday or deposited at an official drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day, FOX 5 DC reported. Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by November 13, ten days after the election.
In Maryland, mail-in ballots must be returned to an election board office, an early voting center or an official drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day, or postmarked on or before November 3, FOX 5 DC reported. In Virginia, ballots returned in person must arrive at a local general registrar's office or drop-off location by 7 p.m. on Election Day, and ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the general registrar's office by noon on the third day after the election.
