Metro Access Changes Start Monday: Minnesota Avenue Elevator Work Through December 12 and a Week of Closed Bus Stops at 14th and Underwood (Washington Sentinel News)

Two pieces of Metro access work begin Monday, and both are on WMATA's own Alerts and Advisories page. The longer one is at Minnesota Avenue station, where an elevator modernization project is listed as effective from November 2 through December 12, 2026. Riders who rely on the elevator at the Orange Line station in Northeast should expect the work to be part of their trip planning for the next six weeks; WMATA's alert announces the modernization window without listing a substitute arrangement in the summary the desk read this morning.

The shorter closure is on the street network. From Monday, November 2 through Saturday, November 7, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day, the northbound and southbound bus stops on 14th Street NW at Underwood Street - stop IDs 1002780 and 1002781, on the D5X route - will temporarily close due to construction, according to WMATA's advisory. Riders on that Upper Northwest corridor should plan to board at neighboring stops during the daytime work hours; the closure is a daytime window, not a round-the-clock shutdown.

The two items land in the same week as Metro's previously announced weekday track work, listed on the same alerts page as effective November 2 through November 6 - a program this station detailed on Friday. For Monday-morning riders, the practical checklist is short: elevator users at Minnesota Avenue are working around a modernization project through mid-December, D5X riders at 14th and Underwood need a different stop between 9 and 4, and everyone else should check WMATA's alerts page before leaving, because the week of Election Day is a construction week across the system.
