Free Community Day at the National Museum of Women in the Arts Brings Free Admission and a Quilt Documentation Day to Sunday
The National Museum of Women in the Arts opens free to everyone on Sunday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a Quilt Documentation Day in the Great Hall and drop-in art-making in the Open Studio.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts holds its monthly Free Community Day on Sunday, November 1, with free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1250 New York Avenue NW, the museum said. Community Days fall on the first Sunday and second Wednesday of each month; reservations are recommended, and the last entry time is 4:30 p.m.
This Sunday's program is quilt-themed. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the museum hosts a Quilt Documentation Day in the Great Hall, where visitors can bring in a family quilt, regardless of its condition, to be examined, photographed and recorded in the national African American Quilt Registry. The documentation is free, and advance registration is required.
Educators also run the museum's Open Studio from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free, self-directed drop-in art-making activities inspired by artworks on view. The day offers a chance to explore the collection and current exhibitions without the usual admission charge, in a downtown museum dedicated to women artists from the 16th century to the present.
