Trump to Deliver Closing Midterm Remarks at the Reflecting Pool on Monday
President Donald Trump will close his midterm campaign where his drive to remake the capital is on full display: the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, a White House official told The Washington Sun.

President Donald Trump will deliver remarks on Monday at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, a White House official told The Washington Sun, in what is likely to serve as the closing message of his monthslong campaign rally blitz on the eve of Tuesday's midterm elections.
The president has spent the past month traversing the country for more than two dozen in-person rallies, stumping for Republicans in competitive statewide races, including Senate nominees Ken Paxton in Texas and Mike Rogers in Michigan, and encouraging crowds to vote as if he himself were on the ballot. AFP, in its own midterm-eve report, likewise noted that for his closing argument Trump chose a speech in Washington at the Reflecting Pool.
The setting is one the president has made his own project. During his second administration Trump has focused on renovating D.C. landmarks, including the Reflecting Pool: he has maintained that vandals cut the bottom of the pool, and his administration hired contractors to resurface it, work completed in late June. Trump told reporters in Iowa on Sunday that he planned to deliver remarks at the Reflecting Pool 'to show how beautiful it is.'
The pool carries a long civic history of its own. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his 'I Have a Dream' speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial overlooking the Reflecting Pool in 1963, and President Barack Obama marked the 50th anniversary of King's speech at the pool in 2013. Monday's remarks put the midterm campaign's final argument on that same ground, one day before voters decide control of Congress.
