Metro on Halloween Night: Yellow Line Ends at Mt. Vernon Square, and Green, Orange and Silver Trains Single-Track

Riders heading home from Halloween in the District face a thinner Metro on Saturday night: Yellow Line trains run only between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square, Green Line trains single-track with 16 minutes between trains, and Orange and Silver Line trains single-track with 24 minutes between trains, WMATA said.

Metro on Halloween Night: Yellow Line Ends at Mt. Vernon Square, and Green, Orange and Silver Trains Single-Track (Washington Sentinel News)

Metro's weekend service plan for October 31 and November 1 reshapes four lines for rail infrastructure improvements, with no stations closed, according to WMATA's weekend service and planned track work pages. On the Yellow Line, all trains run between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square only, so riders continuing north of Mt. Vernon Square need another line.

On the Green Line, trains single-track between Georgia Avenue-Petworth and Fort Totten, with 16 minutes expected between trains, WMATA said. On the Orange Line, trains single-track between Ballston-MU and West Falls Church, and on the Silver Line trains single-track between Ballston-MU and McLean, with all Silver Line trains running from Ashburn to Downtown Largo only; both lines carry 24 minutes expected between trains in the work zones.

The Red and Blue lines run normal weekend service, WMATA said. Metrorail's general weekend hours are 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. to midnight on Sunday.

For Halloween night, the practical effect is longer waits on the four affected lines and one forced decision for Yellow Line riders north of downtown. WMATA directs riders to its alerts and MetroPulse pages for the latest state of service.
