Prince George's County Votes at 236 Polling Places on Tuesday — After a Maryland Early Vote That Nearly Doubled 2022

More than 604,000 Marylanders voted early this year, against nearly 382,000 in the whole 2022 cycle. The rest of Prince George's County votes Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., at assigned polling places from the Stamp Student Union to College Park City Hall — for governor, county executive, the full council and the fate of its two at-large seats.

Prince George's County Votes at 236 Polling Places on Tuesday — After a Maryland Early Vote That Nearly Doubled 2022 (Washington Sentinel News)

Prince George's County goes to the polls on Tuesday with much of its verdict already cast — statewide, at least. A little more than 604,000 Marylanders voted during the early voting period for the 2026 general election, nearly double the nearly 382,000 who voted early in 2022. Everyone else votes the old way: in person, on Election Day, between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The county runs 236 polling places on Tuesday, including the University of Maryland's Stamp Student Union and College Park City Hall. On Election Day a voter must vote at the polling place assigned to their home address — not at an early voting center — and anyone in line at their assigned location before 8 p.m. can still vote. A voter who is not registered can register on Election Day at that assigned polling place, and the State Board of Elections urges voters to review their sample ballot before they arrive.

The ballot is long at every level. Statewide, Democratic Governor Wes Moore faces Republican Dan Cox in a rematch of 2022, and three questions ask voters to amend the state constitution — on budgeting money for state labor agreements, on filling vacancies on the Commission on Judicial Disabilities, and on removing the requirement that congressional districts be compact and consist of adjoining territory, which would clear the path for future redistricting proposals.

In the county itself, the county executive and the full County Council are up for election — and a countywide referendum decides the fate of the council's two at-large seats, which represent the whole county alongside its nine districts. Polls close at 8 p.m.; the county's Election Day file continues tonight as its results come in.
