Election Day opens clear in the capital — 48.6 degrees before sunrise on the station feed, mainly clear (code 1) for Tuesday with a high of 70.1 and a 2 percent rain chance. The fog the feed carried overnight for Tuesday has cleared off the day; it returns Wednesday instead.

Washington DC Election Day Weather: A Clear 49 at Dawn, Mainly Clear Skies and 70 by Afternoon (Washington Sentinel News)

The capital votes under a clear sky. The station's live weather feed read 48.6 degrees and clear before sunrise on Election Day, feeling like 46, on the way up from a low of 44.5 — a cold, dry start for the region's first poll workers and voters, with no weather excuse anywhere in the numbers.

Tuesday itself is coded mainly clear, with a high of 70.1 and a precipitation chance of just 2 percent. That is a change from Monday night's late feed, which had put a fog code back on Election Day morning; on this early read the fog has moved to Wednesday, which opens foggy (code 45) before reaching 71.6, again with only a 2 percent rain chance.

The week's warm peak still arrives Thursday — 79 degrees, the highest of the week, with a mild low of 64.4 — but it comes with light drizzle and a 41 percent precipitation chance. Friday is the wet day: drizzle, a high of 68.8 and the week's highest precipitation chance at 70 percent.

The weekend resets cooler and calmer: Saturday is mainly clear at 57, Sunday is overcast at 59.6, and Monday is overcast at 56. The Weather Desk keeps the /weather page true against this same live feed, and the next file updates the count-day picture as results come in.
