Takoma Metro Station Bus-Shelter Work Enters Phase 4: Bays G and H Closed, Ride On Routes Shift (Washington Sentinel News)

Riders changing buses at Takoma Metro station have a new boarding map to learn. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority began Phase 4 of its Bus Shelter Replacement Program work at the station on Monday, November 2, and in this phase Bus Bays H and G are temporarily closed, the county's transportation department said.

The shifts are specific. Ride On routes 12 and 13 bypass Bay H and use temporary Bay T1 instead, while Ride On routes 14 and 24 bypass Bay G and use Bay C. More broadly, some bus bays at the station will be temporarily closed in phases, and Ride On, Metrobus and other transit providers may operate from temporary or alternate bus bays while construction is underway. The bay changes themselves are scheduled for early Monday mornings, around 3 a.m., to cut the impact on the morning commute.

The temporary stops come with a trade-off: they are ADA-compliant, but they may not include shelters or benches while work is underway. Clear signs are posted throughout the station to direct riders to the correct boarding locations, and buses will continue to serve all routes, the notice said.

WMATA and the county are asking riders to allow a few extra minutes for travel through the station, follow posted signage and staff directions, and check wmata.com for service updates. One fare note for the transfer: Ride On, Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex and Flash buses operate under the county's free-fare policy, while Metrobus still requires fare. Takoma, on the Red Line at the District's northern edge, is one of the main bus-rail transfer points for Montgomery County riders heading downtown.
